My sister is friends with a woman who decorates cookies for a business, and man, they are so beautiful! I am often drooling over the pictures she posts on FB. (check out FROST) So imagine my excitement when Andrea (the owner/operator of Frost) posted that she was starting up home classes! For $30, you would learn some techniques and decorate cookies with royal frosting in one sitting! I was all for it!
My sister scheduled her class this past Sunday, where 6 of us gathered together for some fun.
I admit to feeling totally unsure of my abilities! I'm sure most of us did, but I was convinced that I would really stink at this! After all, everyone else seemed to have some sort of knowledge of icing and decorating and such. My extent of knowledge comes from buying a can of the Betty Crocker icing and spreading it with a butter knife over my crappy attempts at cupcakes! I don't even bother making cakes; if I need one for a birthday party, I beg my mother-in-law to make something for me! Put icing into a bag? Different types and sizes of tips? Are you kidding me?
Despite that, I did manage to fill up my practice sheet just fine. The more I practiced, the more confident I felt! Andrea was really good at encouraging you and offering advice. She was patient and really did think we could all accomplish what she was going to teach!
The class was a lot of fun! We learned how to fill and do wet-on-wet (seen below) and most importantly, fix mistakes!
The one cookie she was having us decorate was the cat, and I thought it looked like the easiest one to make out of all of them, but in the end I think it was the trickiest. Mostly because as we were outlining our poor kitty, most of us forgot to add the arch in the back (which Andrea tried to convince us that we didn't need to do, but who was she kidding? Of course we all wanted our cookies to look just like hers!) and then there was the neck and ears...that's the part I messed up. Dang!
If you looked at my poor kitty from the wrong angle, you wouldn't know what it was! I had to add eyes and whiskers to make it look more 'cat-like', and even that made it look demented! Haha. Still cute enough, though! (until I smudged the leg as it was drying, oops!)
Heather's cat was the cutest! In the end, I wished I had copied hers (since it was too late to follow Andrea's cat!) She named him Garfield. (she did awesome on her others too, as seen in the picture below)
The funnest one to make was the skull. Andrea made it look so easy, but man, those eyes!!! The wet-on-wet (I think that's what she called the technique) seemed easy, but hard to predict the icing spreading and growing into the eye ball and the pupils being off and such, and black icing isn't very forgiving if you make a mistake! But it was the one that made us all laugh the most at our attempts!
We made 6 cookies but decided that it was a long class to make that many. We were running out of time and most of us had to rush home to kids and dinner. An evening class may be better. Or we suggested having less cookies to learn.
I wished I had taken a picture of Andrea's sample cookies, but maybe comparing mine to hers aren't the best idea! I thought mine turned out just great for a newbie! As they sat and dried, they actually began to look better too. (my bat was done last, and was more rushed, since I had to leave) I think I liked my spiderweb and skull the most.
If you are in the area, definitely consider hosting Andrea in your home for a cookie class! It was a lot of fun, and she really is interested in teaching you so that you can take these techniques home for your own cookies and cakes (or whatever else people decorate). She gave us a technique sheet as well, but I forgot mine. Oops. With Spring now here (although some days you can't quite tell with the chilly wind storms we've been having and the -eek, what in the world???- snow the other day!) and the brand new soon-to-be-released stamp set, Awash With Flowers, in my hands (I love being a Stampin' Up Demonstrator and having a pre-order option!) I have been having fun playing. (wow, that was a long sentence!) I am putting together a class near the end of this month to celebrate Spring and flowers.
Would you like to see some samples? Of course you would! While these are already on my Demonstrator Website under the Creative Projects section, it's good to actually post something in a more personal way.
This mini card comes as a CASE straight from the Two-Step into Spring Promotion going on right now. This card is a mini one, only sized at 3x3, so it's perfect for little notes or adding to a gift. (who doesn't like gifts?)

I tried and tried a good 4 times to get this picture clear, but alas, no such luck. Maybe if you squint, it'll look more clear! Oh wait! I meant it to look that way! It *is* clear, it's just the watercolour effect going on that you're seeing! *smile* She's gorgeous anyways!

I came across this awesome card on the wonderful Jan Tink's blog and knew I had to teach it to my 10x10 Club last month! It's a card that when you open it, these flaps open up like a curtain to show a message or picture from behind. It looks like a theatre curtain. Very cool!
The card was incredibly easy to put together...it was just the front that we had difficulty with. Jan made her using the Circle Scissors Plus, which would be great, but I was teaching 6 ladies and knew that wouldn't be an option, as that would take forever for us all to use the thing. Plus, I'm still working on mastering the blasted circle maker as it is! And everyone would have their scallop circle punch different to their own style as well, so I couldn't pre-cut circles out either. Or maybe I'm wrong. *shrugs* So I had to think of a solution. First, I used the scallop circle punch for the front pieces, but that got tough by the third layer. Then I thought of using larger circle punches! That wasn't the easiest either, but it worked!
On the night of the class, we actually all brainstormed on better solutions, and my lovely sister came up with the idea of tracing the circle instead of using a mask, and I must say it worked out so much better! At least for me!
Of course, none of this makes sense without seeing the card or Jan's samples and instruction video! So, here, check out the card we made in the class. This one actually isn't even mine, but my lovely sister, Julie Royer's! *smile* She fiddled around with centering the circles and having the red show up beneath. Then she added a punched heart on top of the "curtain", just to cover up the lines of where the two pieces intersect (but not stuck down with adhesive on one side so it can open). That wasn't in the original card I designed, but I love it! Wish I'd come up with it! This card uses the brand-new DSP that I LOVE called "Sending Love" and a new Pretty in Pink epoxy brad, both of which are in the new mini catalogue.
Julie worked hard on the inside, making it so that you couldn't see the curtain bits after you opened the card. It turned out really nice!

Sorry I haven't been around much. I suppose that isn't too out-of-ordinary for me, though, is it? I've been busy stamping and doing classes. It's all good! I actually had a woman ask me to make up some card kits for a group, so I was busy working on those. I had to make 10 each of two designs. Here is the creative process:
Everything was pre-cut and pre-stamped and all that fun stuff. Times 10! I put all the pieces into little printed baggies, along with envelopes, a sample card and simple instructions. (the cards are easy enough anyways to make)
Finished Product. This one is my favourite that I've made this season.
all SU! Dasher stamp set, Rich Razzleberry textured c/s, Soft Suede c/s, Pale Plum c/s, Whisper White c/s, Christmas Cocoa DSP, Soft Suede ink, Linen thread, Mistletoe ribbon (old olive), Dazzling Diamonds, corner rounder.
inside of the card included a Pale Plum cardstock for writing on, the Serene Snowflakes stamp set (My FAVE set from the Holiday Mini catalogue. LOVE IT!!! That, and Dasher, from the regular IBAC, are my two faves for the season), and some Dazzling Diamonds. And we're set!
The other 10 cards were of another design I CASEd from the Holiday Mini catalogue. I don't feel so badly about it though b/c I've seen so many other demonstrators use that one too! It's a beautiful card and I think mine turned out just as good!
all SU! Serene Snowflakes stamp set, Many Merry Messages stamp set, Bashful Blue textured c/s, Kraft c/s, Christmas Cocoa DSP, Basic Black ink, Versamark ink, Bashful Blue ink, Frost White Shimmer Paint, corner rounder, cutter tool (7-sided distressing tool).
There is still time to make your own cards, you know! If you're looking for ideas, I can show you a bunch of easy ones to make. Or maybe a card kit is the way to go for you. All the bits are provided, you just add the SNAIL Adhesive and put it all together! Talk about cutting your time in half! Send along an email to me themadstamper @ shaw dot ca. (sorry, I don't provide a live link, so I'm not likely to get spam!) I can show you the many options for cards.

Remember me bemoaning over the fact that I overzealously joined a swap I know nothing of? Tickle your memory muscle here, if need be. I had committed to creating 25 punch art penguins, but didn't even have half of the punches needed to complete said task. (See the cutesy penguins created by Jenn Diercks HERE) Well, I figured it out and all was done and I saved the day with my cunning-ness: I decided to scrap the whole idea of cute Christmas penguins and make owls! That I could do!!!
Here is my unveiling of my oh-so-cute owl:
This baby only uses punches I own! Such as the 1 3/4" circle (ok, I actually don't own that one either. I cheated and used the Circle Scissors Plus. Shh! don't tell!!!), scallop circle, round tab, 1/2" circle, crop-a-dile, and heart-to-heart punch. The paper is Handsome Hunter (a colour I never use), and the DSP is brand-new staight-from-the-holiday-mini, Autumn Meadows. Oh, and I used the sentiment from the Owl Together Now set. I liked my card front and was so pleased with myself. Especially with my funky attempts at shading with pastels! That is, until I got the 24 other swaps back and then I felt a bit inadequate! My card front looks slightly....boring...and not detailed. Oh well, that's what swaps are for, right? To learn new ideas and share your own, even if they aren't in a gorgeous setting!
For your enjoyment, I going to share some of my favourites. There were so many to choose from, but I picked only 4. The first two are great for upcoming Christmas cards.
Aren't they adorable? The reindeer was done by Lynne Gorbahn and the cardinal by Taylor Madge.
The next looks difficult (although my Hunny says he can figure it out, lol) but definitely one I want to CASE. It was made by Aaron Maltais.
Seriously! isn't it great?
Unfortunately, none of them had directions on how to recreate these punch art pieces. Actually, about 90% of the swaps didn't, which was disappointing.
The next one, I got to see via blogging before it arrived, and I must say it is much cuter IRL! This one was done by my friend, D, and you can see her own post on it HERE. She gave a recipe on which punches were used at least! *wink* Isn't it the most adorable thing you've seen? {{BTW>they are babies hanging on a washline. NOT piggies, like my Hunny thought! I laughed so hard when he said that...I can kind of, maybe, see how he can THINK that the tops are ears and the faces are pig noses..but really, I can't! Silly man!}}
Can you see how mine looks so....boring? *sigh* But I made punch art! How awesome is that? Yay go me! *smile* Methinks I'm just going to have to increase my punch collection and have a fun punch class soon! Who's up for that?

I’m changing things up for now regarding my classes. Instead of holding card classes, I am offering KITS in two ways. You will see two different cards kits above.; the one on the left is called In Colour Craze, and features 6 cards, all using the brand-new In Colours. The one on the right is Many Thoughts and a set of 4.
These Kits are available in two different ways.
1) hostess a class and make either one of these kits with your friends. You choose which set, invite your friends, and I’ll provide the rest!
2) Purchase the kit to make them on your own!
In Colour Craze (6) $25 kit (includes everything: c/s, stamped images, embellishments, instructions, etc. You just need the adhesive to attach it all.)

It’s going to take some time for me to get used to them, but I’m sure I’ll love them soon enough and decide I can’t live without them! In pictures, Crushed Curry looks so bright, but in real life, it’s not so bad. It’s actually the colour used for the cover of the new IBAC! And did you see??? This year, the new In Colours are available in the markers!!! How great is that? I’ll be playing around this month with colour combinations. Notice the beautiful Wedding series?...gorgeous stamp sets, papers, envelopes, and Big Shot textured folder...so easy to make up a matching wedding invite that will look so classy. Makes me wish I knew someone getting married!

I was playing with NEW stamps the other night and totally loving it! As a Demonstrator, I get first-dibs at new products, so I ordered two Hostess sets (Echoes of Kindness level 2 and Hand Drawn Bundle level 3) and a SAB set (Polka Dot Punches) One of the MANY advanteages to being a Demonstrator!
The Hand-Drawn Bundle consists of: It's A Loop Thing stamp set of 4 images, Hand-Drawn DSP (3 pages each of 3 different double-sided designs) and the Loop To Loops Rub Ons (2 sheets, in Ch. Chip & Whisper White) I am LOVING this set! I had fun putting together a few cards using the stamps. (haven't used the paper or rub ons yet… I'm going to hoard them for a while. If I use them then I won't have any left. Can't have that.) These are the cards I came up with.

Did you notice anything about the cards that were similar???? I didn't even notice this until I was making the last one. They all contain the stamped image 3 times! Interesting. It wasn't done out of intention. I have heard that things need to be separated or split into Thirds for better completion and to be more appealing to the eye, but it wasn't intentional. I guess it's just a natural thing for me…to just KNOW how to make my cards so awesome and appealing, that is.

I have a Stampin' Up! class booked at the end of next week and it's for a girl for her 8th birthday party. I am SOOOO excited! I've never actually done a party for a group of girls, although I have had a few young kids in classes with parents before, so this should be interesting. These are the projects I have designed for the girls. They aren't hard and should be lots of fun for them!
The first thing is the bouncy card. I need to pick up a more "bouncy" wire, but it still looks good the way it is! I got the idea off of Dawn. . You have to see her video. It's really easy to make one yourself….so says the girl who cursed under her breath at the odd sizes to cut and score at!!! LOL
The second is a super cute note. A 3×3 envelope is decorated with a 'floating' vellum butterfly, and you tuck your note into the slit at the top. I love it!
The third project is a bookmark with two flowers which my lovely neighbour helped trace and cut for me today! It's not my favourite work, I'll be honest (the bookmark, not my neighbour's tracing/cutting!) but I still think it's cute and will work for the girls. My 7 year old daughter and her best friend liked it, so that sealed the deal for me!
For the cost of the party, I am including two gifts for the goodie bags for the hostess. Check them out below. I love them!!!
They are candy skewers using SU! NEW trio heart punch. LOVE IT!!! (got that idea off of Andrea HERE. I'll need to find some cellophane bags still.) And the second are pillow boxes from the Big Shot, decorated with the NEW Love You Much stamp. Inside the boxes are more of the trio heart punches and I'm going to add something else still, but I don't know what yet. But it'll be good!
I can't wait for the class! I had so much fun planning this and I so want it to be so much fun for Michaila and her friends. That's what's the important part, right? That the girl has a great time for her birthday; I'm so excited that I get to be a part of it!

I've got two classes coming up this week and next for my Stamp-a-Stack of Christmas cards. I'm offering it in two parts. Class #1 is this Wednesday, Nov 7th, for two cards. We'll be making 10 of each design for $25. Class #2 is on Monday Nov 12 for two more styles. So you can take one class for 20 cards, or both for 40 cards!
